Frequently Asked Questions
Is Botox FDA approved?
The FDA has approved Botox for use in three specific areas of the face. The forehead (Frontalis muscle), the “Elevens” between the eyes (Glabellar Complex) and Crow’s Feet (Orbicularis Oculi).
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand name for a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is widely used in both medical and cosmetic procedures. Here at KL Aesthetics & Wellness, we inject Botox for cosmetic use only.
Botox is most commonly known for its ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. It works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles, such as those in the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the eyebrows (frown lines).
Botox is injected directly into the muscles or skin using a fine needle. The effects typically begin to show within a few days and can last for 3 to 4 months, depending on the area treated and individual response.
Botox is generally considered safe when administered by a qualified professional. However, potential side effects can include localized pain, swelling, bruising, headache, and, in rare cases, more severe reactions.
How many units of Botox will I need?
FDA recommended dosing for all three areas of the face is a total of 64 units. The actual amount needed may vary (higher or lower) based on the client’s individual anatomy. Your injector has been trained to evaluate facial anatomy to determine the best treatment plan for you.
How long does Botox last?
Botox lasts approximately 3-4 months with full correction.
Do you offer “Baby Botox”?
Dose equals duration. “Baby Botox” is a term for administering fewer units of Botox to an area. Using FDA-approved Botox dosing ensures that the treatment is perfectly matched to the muscle area being targeted. This means you can enjoy the benefits of your Botox for 3-4 months, helping you get the most out of your treatment and saving money over time.
What should I avoid for 24 hours prior to getting Botox?
- Do not drink alcohol.
- Avoid coffee and other caffeine products.
- Avoid using topical products like tretinoins, Retin A, etc.
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, or tweezing
- Do not take aspirin, Ibuprofen, NSAIDs, or other medications that thin the blood.

What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate the outer layers. This process helps remove dead skin cells, promote cell turnover, and reveal smoother, more radiant skin. Chemical peels can address various skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and age spots. The process rejuvenates your skin to improve your overall appearance. We offer three SkinMedica chemical peel options tailored to your skin type and concerns, including Illuminize (mild), Vitalize (moderate), and Rejuvenize (strong).
Tingling or burning sensations are expected and may last 1-2 hours. A handheld fan will be provided during procedure to alleviate some discomfort.
Who can benefit from Chemical Peels?
Skin Medica peels address visibile skin imperfections that result from photodamaged skin, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, mild acne scars and acne-prone skin.
Is there any downtime with Chemical Peels?
Illuminize is the gentlest peel, appropriate for first time clients or who have mild skin imperfections. This peel is mild and causes little to no peeling, but will brighten the skin. Can be repeated every 2 weeks.
Vitalize peel is appropriate for all skin types with mild to moderate skin imperfections. There is very little downtime, but expect some peeling to occur 2-5 days post peel. Can be repeated eery 3-4 weeks.
Rejuvenate is a deeper peel and indicated for those with more severe skin imperfections. This peel produces moderate irritation and skin peeling. Can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.
Results are cumulative over time.
Contraindications for Chemical Peels
Always check with your healthcare provider if you are on any prescription medications including antibiotics that could cause your skin to be more easily irritated. Skin Medica peels are not recommended if you have vitiligo, inflammatory rosacea, open sores or wounds to the treatment area, auto-immune diseases, on chemo or radiation or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
